Our next fishing trip takes us to Laguna Lake a small lake that is located in the city of Fullerton Ca. The Department of Fish and Game usually stocks the lake with fish. Starting in the fall to early winter they stock it with Trout. In the Late spring to early summer they stock it with Catfish. Laguna Lake has a nice amount of Bass (that are picky) and Blue Gill.

Today Eli was on a mission to capture the smallest fishes he can. He was using about a 1.5' rod with a spinning reel. He had 4lb. test line and was using a whopping #16 size hook. For bait he was using meal worms.

Here is Eli with a Blue Gill

Baby Bass
I was using a Cabela's ProGuide 9' rod with a Abu Garcia BlackMax Bait Casting reel. The reel had Berkley Big Game 10lb. Test Line With a #4 hook. For bait I was using two to three jumbo night crawlers. I was using the 9' rod so it would make it easier to toss the night crawlers right up against the weeds that were about 12-15 feet from shore. A lot of people loss their lures and hooks in the long weeds. Another technique I was using was to hide the tip of the hook by penetrating the night crawler so when it went into the weeds I would have a better chance of retrieving it.

The weeds that take so many lures

Blue Gill just wouldn't stay still

Of course we caught and released these fish so they can fight another day.  This lake is a nice inner city lake to take kids fishing for the first time.  There is an abundance of small Blue Gill and Small Bass that are ready to strike at anything they see.  It is a good lake to get kids interested in fishing and get them hooked on fishing like we are.

Our new fishing adventure takes us to Leo Carrillo State Beach in Malibu California. August 14 through the16th.

We were there for 3 days and 2 nights. We mainly boogie boarded and hiked, but like always we had a pole in the water just in case.

The first night we caught a Mackerel it was small but it was still a rod bender and gave Eli a pretty good fight. The second night we caught another fish about the same size, but Eli's buddies are in the picture and I don't have permission from their parents.
Here is a picture of our Shimano 12' rod with an Okuma reel

Here are some pictures of our campground

We went on a hike and from about mid way up the hill we were able to see our camp. It was overcast most of the day till the early afternoon the sun would finally come out.  Leo Carrillo is a nice place to camp most of the camp sites have a lot of shade, the beach is really close with in walking distance.
